Locations Statewide Offer Free Food and Prizes to Thank Customers
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2009) – Wahoo’s Fish Taco, a community mainstay and worldwide pop culture
phenomenon since 1988, is turning 21. During the more than two decades, their customers have become an
extension of the Wahoo’s family, and to show their appreciation the company will be throwing a birthday party.
The founders are hosting a celebration at each of their 38 California Wahoo’s locations. All four Northern
California Wahoo’s located in Cupertino, Fresno, Palo Alto and San Jose will open their doors on Saturday,
Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. and begin handing out presents to customers for their loyal support. To thank the
community, each attendee will receive a gift from Wahoo’s, ranging from free meals to gift cards. Additionally,
the first 21 guests will receive a goodie bag, which will include items from some of their friends in the action
sports industry including Famous Stars and Straps, Tony Hawk Inc., 900 films, Jakks Toys, Liquid Force, and
Tilly’s.
“Everyone who visits their local Wahoo’s to celebrate our milestone will get a present from us,” shared
Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo’s. “From the complimentary meal to great prizes like Wahoo’s gift cards, we
wanted to give our loyal customers something to say thank you. The past 21 years have been amazing and the
founders are expressing their gratitude to everyone.”
During the past two decades, Wahoo’s has perfected its eclectic Mexican/Brazilian/Asian menu
delivered with a Hawaiian North Shore vibe. Its signature fish taco, which hasn’t changed since day one, has
become a favorite among the restaurant’s loyal customers—and a catalyst for the restaurant’s continued
expansion. In just over two decades, the founders have opened more than 50 Wahoo’s and with each new
location have opened their family to the surrounding community.
“The Norcal Wahoo’s are excited about the birthday party and are thrilled to celebrate with our
customers,” continued Lam. “The restaurant will be decorated—complete with balloons and streamers. The day
will be one big party honoring our extended family of Wahoo’s loyalists.”

Amazing riders, one colossal slider combo, and hot Monster girls; all ingredients of one amazing event! The Rio Bravo Pro returned to Rio Bravo Wake Camp in Reynosa, Mexico this past weekend, bringing with it fifteen of the top pro wakeboarders in the world! Aaron Rathy, Rusty Malinoski, Danny Harf, Philip Soven, Shane Bonifay, JD Webb, Randall Harris, Adam Errington, Ben Greenwood, Bob Soven, Collin Harrington, Kyle Rattray and Shawn Watson all came down to participate in the fun and festivities. These world class riders competed for a cash prize of $15,000 and the chance to be named Rio Bravo Pro Champion!
The weekend kicked off with an unscheduled riding jam followed by a pre party with Sergio, owner of the camp, presenting to his guests the famous BEER Room! The next day Phil, Rusty, and Rathy put on a show for some of the locals, throwing down huge tricks. All were impressed and wanted to see more, so once the sun went down, a rail jam proceeded to break out. Each rider had a chance to showcase their skills, and JD Webb came out swinging with pretty much every tech trick in the book. Crowd favorite Phil Soven did a gap to tail tap over a Monster Energy Drink eze-up tent to everyone’s amazement.
Sunday marked the official start of the main event. All riders went head to head and received two river passes, one down and one up. For the third pass everyone had the opportunity to hit either a kicker or a flat bar for extra points. It all came down to four riders in the semi finals; Rusty Malinoski, Adam Errington, Phil Soven, and Randall “The Vandall” Harris.
Randall hit the water first with massive wrapped tricks and huge airs to put pressure on Soven. Phil ended up falling on the second trick of his first pass, and the rest of his run wasn’t quite what the judges were looking for. Harris walked away with the W and $4K large, winning his first contest since 1995. Danny stomped a super huge wrapped backside 7 off the kicker to bring home some cash and the Best Kicker Trick award. JD Webb claimed the Best Rail Trick award with a frontside 180 to switch nose press to blind.
The weekend came to an end with the ceremonial foam spray on the podium and the Monster Girls handing tons of cash. Thanks to Monster Energy, Liquid Force, Corona, Quiksilver, DC Shoes, Skull Candy, Longhardride Shop, Texas Ski Ranch, & Mastercraft.

We are proud to say that Bob Soven is the first Ginger to win a Rookie of the Year award here at Alliance, and the second Ginger to win an award this year! The middle child of the Soven threesome saw his star rise quickly and humorously this past year, as he managed to win every Jr. Men’s stop of the PWT, take second place at the BROstock double up challenge, and make more people laugh along the way than we can count. Given his unbelievable skills on a wakeboard and his “I’m cool, but I’m not that cool” attitude, Bob will be a popular presence in the industry for years to come. We’ve also got money on him to take down the next Feet on Fire barefoot title.
The 2009 Alliance Superlatives recognize the outstanding athletes and more for the past year. They are chosen by the Alliance staff in collaboration with former Rider of the Year winners. Be sure to check out the new issue of Alliance Wakeboard Magazine for more.
