Meet Nick Galotifiore (Gal –o- ta- FURRY)

Many of you might not know who Nick Galotifiore is but you will after this years pro tour. Nick rides Jr. Pro mens but has a pretty impressive resume behind him in including a back to back wins at the Atlanta and Dallas pro tour stops.

From New York, raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Nick moved to Orlando FL, when his pro wakeboarding career needed a push. This gave him the opportunity to ride with others who could quickly improve his trick list and get him in front of some influential photographers.

It didn’t take him long from the time he started riding in June 2005 to get where he is today. In August of that year, his now favorite pro rider, Adam Fields took him under his wing and developed Nick as a rider and person. For anyone that has been taught by Adam, it usually leads to quick success.

You can see the influence when you watch Nick ride. Nick believes style is much more important then trick difficulty. “It is important to grab your tricks and add a poke or tweak to everything. The best riders in the world like Keith Lyman don’t necessarily win contest, but are more fun to watch free ride with this style.”
Nick has competed at many of the Atlas Wake Series events. In 2008 he came up short against Adam at the Virginia Beach stop but put on a great showing. In 2010 he placed first in Wilmington beating rider Stephen Pierce.

When Nick isn’t riding, he practices on his trampoline, referees youth hockey, or daydreams about his celeb fantasy Katherine Heigle.

As Nick’s promising future in wakeboarding continues, he has a great deal of support from an amazing family and some great sponsors: The Board Room of Elizabeth City, NC. Dunkelvolk Clothing, and Liquid Force. His quest won’t be complete until he becomes a Red Bull team rider.

Nick answered some quick questions for us:
Dogs or Cats? Nick- “Birds” (Nick didn’t do well in school)
East Coast or West Coast? Nick – “East Coast! Everyone I have ever met from there have been super positive and really nice. People in general in the sport are really cool, but the East Coast riders are the best!”
Facebook or Twitter? Nick – “Facebook! Twitter sucks!”
Chicken or Beef? – Nick “Beef”
Asian or Mexican? – Nick “Mexican! Wait we are talking about food right?”

Liquid Force’s Soven and Galotifore Take Fort Worth!

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Fort Worth, Texas – Fans packed the shores of Lake Moser at Texas MasterCraft today to catch the final rounds of action at the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour stop in Fort Worth. Riders spent the day battling it out behind the MasterCraft X-Star for wins in the Jr. Pro Men, Pro Men and Pro Women’s divisions.

The Pro Men kicked off the final day of action with their quarterfinal round, where 20 riders hit the water in five heats of four. The quarterfinals cut the competition in half, only advancing the top two riders from each heat onto the semifinals.

The semifinals quickly narrowed down the field of riders to setup the six-man final, but not without a massive upset in the process. Aussie phenom and top-seeded rider, Harley Clifford failed to advance past the semifinals, placing fourth in his five-man heat.

The finals pinned Austin Hair, Bryan Hutton, Rusty Malinoski, Phillip Soven, Danny Harf and Olivier Derome against each other in the final round of action. All eyes were on the new top seed, Rusty Malinoski to see if he duplicate his 2007 Fort Worth winning-run, but fell short to two-time Pro Tour titlist Phillip Soven.

Soven’s Backside 720 off the double up helped push the Florida native to the top of the contest podium, with Malinoski and four-time X Games gold medalist Danny Harf rounding out the top three, respectively.

“I rode really well, stuck my Back 7 and came out on top,” said Soven. “I didn’t expect to win; really thought Rusty [Malinoski] had it, but I ended up taking Fort Worth.”

With the second stop of the 2010 season in the books, Soven and Malinoski are now tied at 180 points in the Pro Tour standings, with Soven taking the tie-breaker due to his win today. Harley Clifford now sits in third place with 160 points.

Soven’s younger brother, Bob, lost to Phillip in their shared quarterfinal heat today, but beat him out in the Rockstar Energy Drink Big-Air Challenge. Bob Soven’s massive Indy Backside 180 off the kicker earned him $1,000 for the winning trick. Texan Tom Fooshee and Phillip Soven rounded out the top three in the Challenge, respectively.

In the Jr. Pro Men’s division, riders hit the water in two heats of five for their semifinal round. Only the top two riders from each heat advanced, sending Steel Lafferty, Kyle Evans, Nick Galotifore and Daniel Powers to the four-man final.

All four rippers threw down some series runs, but current Tour leader Nick Galotifore continued to impress the judges to win his second consecutive Pro Tour stop of the season. Lafferty and Evans rounded out the Jr. Pro Men’s podium, respectively.
Following Fort Worth, the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will head to Elizabethtown, KY, on June 18 & 19, for the third stop of 2010 season. Additional venues for the Pro Tour include Colorado Springs, CO; Knoxville, TN and Acworth, GA.

To catch all the high-flying, rail-sliding, water-sports action of the Fort Worth Pro Tour stop on television, tune in to FUEL TV on Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. EST.

Friday, June 11th, 2010

(Cincinnati, OH) –They’ve assembled a “Dream Team” of professional all-stars to
make history at Wake Nation Cincinnati later this month.

Four of the top pro riders in the wakeboarding industry are joining the Wake
Nation Cincinnati team to set a world record for most distance traveled on a
wakeboard within 24 hours. The 24-hour world record attempt will begin at noon
Friday, June 25, and end at noon Saturday, June 26, and is officially sanctioned
by Guinness World Records™, the ultimate authority on record-breaking
achievement.

The wakeboard pros include: Tom Fooshee (2008 World Wake Park Champion),
Adam Errington (2008 World Wakeboard Association National Champion), J.D.
Webb (2009 Wake Lab Champion) and Amber Wing (2009 Australian National
Champion). Filling out the 10-member Dream Team are Tony Finn (founder of
Liquid Force), Brian Wheeler (managing editor, Wakeboarding Magazine), Neill
Barker (Liquid Force team rider), Mike Olson (official distributor of the Rixen
cable system), and Peter Kennedy and Nick Binkley (co-owners of Wake Nation
Cincinnati.)

The public is invited to join in the fun all weekend long, and will be
able to ride on Wake Nation’s 10-acre lake right alongside the
record-breaking riders throughout the Guinness World Record™ attempt.
When not on the lake, team riders will be available for photos, autographs,
and to provide free tips and coaching all weekend long. There will even be a
pro rider exhibition show on Friday June 25 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a leg of
the Wake Nation Cincinnati Weekly Grind Series competition at 6:00 p.m.
Admission and parking for the entire event is FREE. All donations and
pledges from the event will benefit MedLend, a non-profit organization that
provides medical missions to impoverished countries around the globe in an
attempt to save and improve the lives of their citizens. There will also be
a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind items with all proceeds benefiting
MedLend.

The award-winning Wake Nation Cincinnati opened for its second season May 1
and will operate daily through October. Summer hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Located on Joe Nuxhall Way in Fairfield’s Joyce Park, the Wake Nation
Cincinnati watersports’ complex opened to rave reviews one year ago as Ohio’s
only watersports’ park where riders can wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard, and
wakeskate around a 10-acre lake WITHOUT A BOAT. Riders are pulled around
the oval lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour by a circulating, overhead cable
system that runs 35 feet above the water. During its first season of operation,
Wake Nation Cincinnati received numerous awards, including prestigious “Best
Of” awards from Ohio Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine.

New for 2010 is a smaller, second lake called “The Practice Pond” that features
an “easy start” ride system, the first of its kind in the U.S. The Practice Pond is
designed to give children ages five and up and beginners of all ages a place to
learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake.

At Wake Nation Cincinnati, both parking and admission are FREE. The park is a
“pay as you play” facility with ride time starting at $25 for two hours. Rental
equipment, private lessons, group discounts, season passes and birthday parties
are available.
