Catching up with Amber Wing…
Riding at the top of her game, Amber Wing had a great 2010, including a cover on TransWorld Wakeboarding and being named the Best Women’s Rider at the annual Wake Awards. Chilling at home in Australia, Amber takes some questions…
Hot off a 2010 season, can we expect a repeat win at the Wake Awards in 2011?
I hope so. I will be riding my hardest and pushing as much as I can. I know the other girls are hungry for it as well so I am sure they are going to be giving it their best as well.
Are you gunning for another cover?
I am always thinking of cover shots and it would be awesome to score another cover this year. It is just the case of getting the money shot.
Are you working on new tricks?
Right now I am not working on any new tricks, enjoying my off season in Australia, just riding and having fun, making sure I don’t burn myself out.
What are your 2011 goals?
Stay healthy, keep riding strong, and film and do photo shoots as much as possible.
In your opinion, who is the next up and comer in women’s wakeboarding that will make an impact in the sport?
Such a hard question to answer. There are a few that come to mind that have the talent however it is hard to see if they have the determination and right attitude to be the best and a successful athlete. It will be interesting to watch the careers of Megan Ethall and Taylor McCullough. These girls are 14 and 12, definitely show a passion for wakeboarding and have family support.
If you could land any dream sponsor outside the wake industry, who would it be and why?
Audi. To be given a brand new car would be awesome, and I love Audis. The Q7 is awesome and can tow boats easy!
Who is your biggest threat on tour and why?
Nicola Butler for sure, we are friends and ride together most days, however on tour we are battling for 1st and throughout the year juggled first and 2nd between us.
We have a great friendship and push each other on a daily basis which is great for our wakeboarding and Womens Wakeboarding.
