TAMPA, FL– On the Fourth of July, it was the Canadians who swept the podium at the boat competition portion of the 2013 Red Bull Wake Open.
The boat portion of the competition, which began Wednesday, concluded in dramatic fashion Thursday morning at the SunWest mines near Tampa, with the top three riders finishing very close in points. Raph Derome placed first, with Aaron Rathy placing second and Rusty Malinoski taking third. This result puts Derome, the overall 2012 Red Bull Wake Open winner, in a strong position to defend his title.
Rain delayed the finals until Thursday, giving riders two days of riding on the blue waters of SunWest. They were pulled behind a Malibu Wakesetter 22 MXZ, the official tow boat of Red Bull Wake Open.
The competition resumes Friday in downtown Tampa with the big air competition and concludes Saturday with the cable park portion. Both competition days will be held at the Tampa Convention Center. Red Bull Wake Open will air live at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT on Saturday, July 6 on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series.
