SANNE MEIJER

ABOUT SANNE

What was one of the best moments on your wakeboard?

I can’t decide cause there have been so many, I love riding everyday! When it
comes to competitions I’d say winning IWWF worlds in pro-women in 2014 or
winning the ANOC world beach games in 2019! Both of them showed me anything is
possible!

What lessons has wakeboarding taught you?

Better question is, what hasn’t wakeboarding taught me? Wakeboarding taught me
so much about myself, for example being less shy and more confident. As a kid
I was super shy (still am, but a lot less) and would always hide behind my
mom, haha! I think the biggest lessons I learned was when I injured my
shoulders in 2015 and 2018, I learned to not rush it, listen to my body and be
patient. It still makes me feel insecure about my riding sometimes, especially
when it comes to trying new tricks. Not so scared for the injury, but scared I
can’t wakeboard for months. But most of all wakeboarding taught me to live
life to its full potential!

What does it mean to ride for LF?

When Nico called me to tell me the news I tried to be all cool and chill, but
as soon as I hung up the phone I started screaming and crying (just a bit).
It’s like a dream come true and a real honor to ride for a brand as amazing
and innovative as LF! When I was 11 my first wakeboard I got was the Liquid
Force star 124cm. I learned all my basics on this board, so it’s pretty cool
I’m back on the brand where it all started. I’m just super stoked to be part
of a brand that has so many great male and female athletes on the team and has
obviously the best products.

Who or what inspires you?

I get inspired by a lot of things, like competing and seeing other girls ride.
I always get so much more inspired if I ride with other girls, it motivates me
to push my limits and it’s just so much more fun! I also love to see girls
slay it on other sports, it gets me super inspired. But the one person who
inspires me the most is my mom. Because of her, I am who I am today! She
always motivated me in every possible way she could! When I was younger she
would bring me to the cable every day, would travel across the globe with me
for competitions and would get out of bed super early if I had to go to a team
training at the other side of the country.

What do you think you are doing too much of or too little of because of
wakeboarding?

Well at this moment, I’d say I’m doing too little of wakeboarding cause I’m
stuck at home haha! But let’s say it’s a normal year of competing; I’d say
more of free riding, less competing. Especially since I ride both boat and
cable, it sometimes gets a bit hectic. It’s just so hard for me to skip a
competition, cause I’m so competitive.
